About the Opportunity 

 

Reporting to the Manager of External Communications, the Senior Communications Advisor, Ontario, will play a key role in leading the development of public relations strategies focused on building trust and social license, including developing and delivering stakeholder engagement plans, building relationships with key media and health care partners and supporting business activities and Medavie leaders.

 

The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys proactively building relationships, has experience in corporate communications and working in a virtually connected environment. Strategic media relations experience is required, both sourcing proactive opportunities and issue management.

                                                                                  

Main Responsibilities

  • Leading for the region the development and delivery of external communications strategies and engagement in support of business objectives for Medavie and its operating companies in Ontario.
  • Developing, delivering, and reporting on our organizational stakeholder engagement plan to build trust and social licence.
  • Acting as the main point of contact for media in Ontario; working in close consultation with business partners to support timely responses to requests for information from media and interviews.
  • Provide communications counsel and support for larger Medavie initiatives and strategies.
  • Writing and editing content for communications channels including but not limited to external communications (key messages, news releases, speaking remarks, Q&As etc.).
  • Liaising directly with internal and external business partners to obtain relevant detail/input.
  • Identifying emerging opportunities and challenges that require proactive communication, including new opportunities for enhanced media profile.
  • Connecting with and remaining in-tune with the Ontario business and industry communities, to support thought leadership opportunities.
  • Identifying Thought Leadership opportunities for the region that align with Medavie’s strategic plans and values.
  • Staying up to date on trends and topics in the media relevant to the Ontario market.
  • Providing advice and support in counselling business partners on strategic communication strategies.

 

Our ideal candidate has the following qualifications:

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in a strategic communications role.
  • Post-secondary education in Communications, Public Relations or other related field.
  • Proven delivery of communications and stakeholder engagement strategies in a fast-paced environment with tight timelines.
  • Experience with extensive reputation / issue management.
  • Demonstrated ability to advise senior leaders and create approaches that address business demands/needs.
  • Ability to support highly confidential and sensitive subjects/issues in a professional manner.
  • Team player with a focus on supporting colleagues, trying new approaches and delivering results.           
  • Strong interpersonal, project management and relationship-building skills, with an ability to work with various stakeholder teams in a fast-paced environment, across locations and operating companies.
  • A self-starter and problem-solver who works independently and as part of a geographically-dispersed team.
  • Flexibility to work outside of normal hours and open to occasional travel if required.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset.
