We’re looking for a Medical Underwriter - this is a great role for an experienced Medical Underwriter or for someone with a medical background who thrives in a fast-paced environment where accuracy and attention to detail are second nature. We need someone who is self-directed, organized, is eager to learn and is interested in research. Your everyday with us:

 

  • You will analyze and manage medical underwriting requests to determine product eligibility – dealing directly with our members.
  • Analyze and review the medical risk based on medical evidence & requirements to independently make quality decisions relating to eligibility of coverage and issuance of health or life plans.
  • Approve cases within authority limit, submitting cases exceeding limits to be co-signed.
  • Interact on the phone directly with clients, brokers/agents, physicians and other departments.
  • Document decisions in underwriting system and prepare written correspondence.
  • Contribute to a positive environment through teamwork, and a spirit of innovation, continuous improvement, and professional development.
  • Maintain medical knowledge and stay current on underwriting approaches.

 

What you need to succeed:

 

  • Analytical, judgement, problem-solving, critical thinking and decision-making skills.
  • Influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Knowledge of medicine and risk factors.
  • Medical (nursing, LPN, or similar) or insurance background.
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree and/or relevant working experience.
  • Bilingual is a bonus- spoken/written English and French.
  • Strong communication – (email, letter writing, phone), you are clear and concise, you are confident and able to effectively explain your decisions and navigate through many different conversations.
  • Contribute to a positive environment through teamwork, innovation, continuous learning, and improvement, as well as professional development.
  • ALU/LOMA certification/training is an asset.
  • Existing authority limits is also an asset!
