Position Summary:
Reporting to the Team Leader, and working in a team environment, the Business Analyst is responsible for a wide variety of technical focused work activities associated with the Medicare Programs team.  A large portion of this role is focused on implementing new or revised health service codes and/or claims adjudication system rules to support the current policy requirements.  This work includes gathering business and client requirements, development of test cases and regression testing to support the various system changes.  The Business Analyst is required to maintain current knowledge with respect to policy and procedure changes.  The Business Analyst will liaise closely with Leadership, internal partners, as well as the client.


This role can be remote within the province of Nova Scotia, or can be based in our Dratmouth, NS office, or a hybrid of both.The work arrangements are daytime business hours, Monday - Friday.
Key Responsibilities:

  • User acceptance testing of various applications related to claims payment and provider/resident eligibility.  Includes development and maintenance of use cases.
  • Draft documentation to capture relevant details of new/revised health service codes and claim adjudication rules as requested by the client.
  • Implementation of fee and billing rule changes (requested both internally and externally) during bi-monthly migrations. Includes scoping of change requests, development, testing, and overnight release support. 
  • Support the development of external communications including the MSI Physician Bulletin, MSI Physicians Manual, and accreditation information.
  • Provide support for MSI claim submission vendors. Includes necessary accreditation/re-accreditation of vendor software and troubleshooting technical issues.
  • Works with the leadership team and team members to assist in successful completion of Change Requests and new business implementation with Nova Scotia Provincial Programs - DHW/WCB
  • Gather requirements and request/analyse billing reports to inform system adjudication rules aligning with the current billing guidelines
  • Manage the update and development of business area procedures
  • Work with IT and other business partners to resolve issues that arise in the daily operations and systems associated with Medicare Program
  • Complete customer facing and internal support functions as required to support the business area

Required Qualifications:
Education: Post-secondary diploma or degree in a health related field and or business field or equivalent work experience
Work Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant work experience
Other Qualifications: Strong oral and written communication skills required; ability to priortize workload independantly is required.
Computer Skills: MS Excel, Word and Power Point, comfortable navigating IE or Firefox, SQL would be considered an asset
Language Skills: English
