Reporting to the Manager, Pension and Benefits, you will verify, audit and organize, and enter confidential payroll information to assure that all employees are paid on an accurate and timely basis every semi monthly pay period in accordance with all government payroll regulations. You will perform all administration functions related to the company Group Benefits programs, while acting as a liaison with the plan administrators to ensure compliance and accuracy. Additionally, processing of various MHS Pension Plans, both defined contribution and defined benefit (OMERS and HOOPP).
In this role, you will be responsible for:
Pension and Benefits:
• Ensure the administration of the company benefits programs comply in accordance with government regulations and company policy/procedures while keeping the Manager of Pension and Benefits aware of any concerns or complex issues that arise;
• Be the primary contact for all pension and benefits inquiries from employees, management and benefits providers;
• Process employee changes: new hires, job changes, terminations, retirements, leave administration, and employee personal information changes;
• Responsible for administration of Defined Benefit and Defined Contribution Pension plans for assigned groups, including year-end reporting requirements;
• Reconcile monthly benefits invoices and pension contributions, and remit payments to the company carriers within the required vendor deadlines;
• Calculating and entering payroll corrections as needed;
• Remain current with industry trends and other pertinent information for each benefit program assigned.
Payroll:
• Process, verify, and audit for accuracy information received from the scheduling software according to collective agreements, company policies and procedures;
• Handle inquiries from various levels of staff;
• Review earnings and deductions computed and correct errors to ensure accuracy of payroll;
• Prepare monthly third party remittances;
• Prepare and issue payroll deposits.
• Other duties and projects as assigned.
As the ideal candidate for this role, you:
• Post-secondary education in business or related discipline;
• Three to five years of experience as a payroll administrator and experience in processing a large payroll (200+ employees) required;
• Payroll Compliance Practitioner designation and/or are working towards the designation would be considered an asset;
• Experience administering Group Benefits and/or Defined Benefit Pension Plans strongly preferred;
• Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office suite: Excel and Word. Advanced spreadsheet manipulation skills are critical to be successful in this role;
• Ability to prioritize workload, and read and interpret documents such as union agreements, company procedure policies and Labour Standards;
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and be an excellent communicator to explain challenging situations to employees;
• Must be detail-oriented with the ability to audit and reconcile large amounts of data;
• Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills;
• Demonstrate the ability to take initiative and work independently, solve problems and meet deadlines while functioning well as part of a team; and
• Demonstrated client services orientation.
