Position Summary

 

  • Delivering information technology support services to Medavie Blue Cross and its affiliates, administering databases andsoft ware products:
  • Ensure support services are delivered 24/7 efficiently by professional technical experts, in a timely manner;
  • Provide high performance, well maintained and managed, secure business systems are available to our users when they need them;
  • Ensure customers are satisfied with excellent service;
  • Risks are managed, contingency plans are in place for any situation;
  • Team players, focused on customer satisfaction;
  • Responsible to follow departmental software engineering process, methodology and standards;

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Acts as security administrator for databases (Including Oracle, Microsoft SQL*Server, and MySQL);
  • Research, recommend, create, and support databases and database objects;
  • Provide SQL support to end users and developers;
  • Perform database installs and upgrades;
  • Monitor database performance and tune as necessary;
  • Develop logical and physical database designs
  • Evaluation, installation and configuration of Database software products and related software.
  • Automate, monitor, manage, secure, tune and support database services within the Medavie Blue Cross infrastructure.
  • Support application releases, testing and problem solving on various Database software products.
  • Initiate, plan and implement projects focused within the Database and Reporting Services team as well as across otherInformation Technology teams.
  • Responding to IT service and Helpdesk requests within the required service levels.
  • Creating and maintaining documentation for the Application Support and Platform Services environment and software products.
  • Interacting with customers, answering questions and responding to special requests.
  • Participating in a rotation pager based on-call process with the ability to be on-site within the required service level.

 

Required Qualifications


Education: Post-secondary diploma or degree with a focus in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience.

Work Status: Due to security clearance, you need to be in Canada for at least 5 years and your current status should be Permanent Resident or Citizen of Canada.
Work Experience: Possess two years of database administration experience or application development experience working with databases
Other Qualifications: Have experience working with UNIX, Linux and Windows operating systems. As well, knowledge of Discoverer, Oracle reports, SQL Plus, ITIL, SOA and RUP methodologies will be considered an assets
Computer Skills: Have experience working with some or all of the following Database and Reporting products:Oracle database, MSSQL database, MySQL database, SQL Language, PL SQL Developer, Oracle Discoverer,Cognos, Crystal Reports, Hyperion, Oracle Designer and Enterprise Architect
Language Skills: English (Written and Spoken) is required. French (Spoken) is an asset.
