POSITION SUMMARY:
The Software Architect, working in conjunction with the Enterprise Architect, is responsible for driving major technical decisions and overall design of software.  This typically includes identifying and documenting the architecturally significant aspects of the system, including requirements, design, implementation, and deployment views of the system.  The architect is responsible for providing rationale for these decisions, balancing concerns of the various stakeholders, driving down technical risks and ensuring that decisions are effectively communicated, validated, and adhered to.  The software architect tends to be a generalist rather then a specialist, knowing many technologies at a high level in support of their broad technical decisions.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides direction for the overall design and architecture of software solutions
  • Responsible for architectural quality including functionality, usability, reliability, performance, supportability
  • Oversee the integration of products, tools and system activities and serves as the technical lead on project assignments, providing supervision to ensure all team members follow the direction provided
  • Advise, persuade, &/or negotiate on problems or situations of a simple to complex nature
  • Investigate solutions and provide guidance for planning, estimating, costing and proposal delivery activities
  • Review and recommend new opportunities, solutions, tools and approaches to better serve the long-term architectural direction.
  • Provides coaching and advice in the technical arena of software development.
  • Plan and coordinate simple to complex projects and activities with team members and any stakeholders both internal to Medavie Blue Cross and external clients.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Academic Background: University Degree or College Diploma in Computer Science or similar program

 

Experience:  Typically 7+ years of experience in Software Architecture, Design and Development.

 

Languages:  Proficiency in English is required (written & spoken).  French would be an asset.

 

Other Skills:

  • Proven track record of successfully designing complex software solutions.
  • Understanding of the RUP Methodology, Iterative Development and quality control
  • Exceptional technical skills crossing a broad range of applied technology
  • Ability to direct multiple people on multiple tasks at the same time
  • Exceptional Leadership, Communication, Interpersonal and Negotiation Skills
  • Ability to grasp complex ideas quickly and make educated, critical judgement in the absence of complete information while under time and cost constraints.
