Medavie is on an exciting journey to diversify and expand its Pan-Canadian presence by developing a new Digital Direct line of business. Reporting to the Director of Digital Product, the Senior Product Designer will be creating intuitive, engaging and positive user experiences across both new and existing products. The Senior Product Designer will be working closely with business to support go-to-market strategy in B2B2C, B2C or B2B, which includes conducting research, identifying unmet needs, quickly ideating, iterating prototypes, and testing multiple concepts ideas with end users to validate that they are desirable.

 

The Senior Product Designer is a key role within the Digital Direct line of business and will directly help Medavie bring a unique value proposition that improves the health and wellness of Canadians. The ideal candidate will have passion, energy, be nimble and has the know-how to support the creation of a new line of business while embracing uncertainty and ambiguity. The role requires you to have a strong background in User-Centered Design (UCD) methodologies, and digital product design. Previous experience working with fast-paced, agile development teams in the full software development life cycle is an asset.

As the dedicated designer of the new Digital Direct team, we need your expertise to help design a new health and wellness platform that will challenge and push the boundaries of digital health experiences.  If you enjoy experimentation and iteration, making your mark on the end-to-end design of the product, shaping the design strategy, and working on leading edge health and wellness solutions, this may be the role for you.

 

What You’ll Do

 

  • Lead User Centred Design-driven approach to discovery, research, and testing of multiple concepts and capabilities in Digital Direct space to identify and enhance the digital health ecosystem.
  • Be ready to conduct user research: including interviews, workshops, and prototyping; synthesizing research data/insights; articulating user needs; and mapping existing systems and scenarios through user journey maps and story boards.
  • Identify key insights and evidence-based recommendations to the product owner to inform actions that will enhance product and user experience.  
  • Lead and be responsible for UI/UX design reviews as the product is developed and tested.
  • Support implementation teams to help successfully launch new products and services, conduct real-world observations, and continue to iterate.
  • Analyze existing digital products and investigate business issues, drive a high-performing product design skillset and the ability to leverage design thinking practices to build UI/ UX flows that result in measurable efficiencies, solve recurring problems or otherwise improve the user’s experience.
  • Apply systems thinking to the creation, maintenance, and growth of our existing design system⁠—ensuring consistency and simplicity within our brand guidelines. Act as Digital Direct’s team representative when engaging with corporate Brand and Marketing teams
  • Effectively communicate to stakeholders and participants with all levels of knowledge and backgrounds; present concepts and designs through reports and presentations
  • Be a key resource in the adoption strategy to drive usage and acquisition by continuously monitor and measure client experiences, end-user behaviours and usage of the product to inform ongoing refinement of product roadmap and feature pipeline

 

Experience You’ll Need

 

  • Successful track record of designing elegant and impactful digital products (in responsive web platforms and Native Apps) that reflected your understanding of customer. Knowledge/experience and proven track record in the digital health space would be beneficial
  • Previous experience leveraging data and insights to support problem solving and to inform design decisions
  • Excellent understanding of the capabilities, strengths, and limitations of current technology stacks and best practice UI/UX guidelines to best align design and development to optimize efficiency, performance, and user value
  • Startup experience helpful; highly collaborative and ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment professionally and positively
  • Ability to work well under pressure and remains calm by incorporating excellent time management skills and exceptional organization skills to meet many priorities, deadlines and frequent interruptions
  • Passion for health and wellness solutions to improve the well-being of Canadians. Prior experience with healthcare is a plus.

 

Required Qualifications

 

  • Education: Bachelors degree in Design
  • Work experience: 5+ years in a professional role that utilized experience design, human factors or user-centred design/research, or other relevant fields.
  • Technical proficiency of Adobe Creative Cloud (i.e. Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and others) and wireframing and brainstorming software (such as Figma or Miro); working knowledge of HTML, CSS, JSP/JSF, JavaScript/JQuery, WordPress considered an asset.
  • Embrace uncertainty and ambiguity; be self-motivated and dedicated to continuous improvement
