Position Summary 
This technical role is primarily focused on supporting the Group Underwriting Best Practice Team in organizational-wide projects and deliverables with a emphasis on coding and programming our various underwriting tools in order to meet business targets. You will analyze, critically assess and execute the programming and development of tools related to health insurance underwriting applications. Your ability to identify critical issues, inconsistencies in the applications, researching, monitoring and resolving/aligning market differences and gaps will be crucial in this role.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support the enhancement of group underwriting tools by programming our various initiatives using VBA, macros and other Excel based programming
  • Provide technical support and training to Underwriters in all regions 
  • Act as a subject matter expert in strategic initiatives by partnering with IT in support of technology enablement
  • Ensure solutions meet business needs and requirements
  • Contribute to the resolution of both business requirements and system issues and communicate system solutions in business and technical terms


  • Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Mathematics, Actuarial Sciences or related field
  • 1-3 years' experience in computer programming, actuarial analytics, data science, or mathematics preferred
  • Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Excel, Macros and knowledge in Visual Basic Applications (VBA); familiarity and comfort working with complex excel formulas required 
  • Knowledge of group underwriting, benefits, funding methodologies considered an asset but not required
  • Effective attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy
  • Proven ability to multi-task and manage a high volume of complex, diverse functions, and work independently with minimal supervision
  • A team player, with ability to work and communicate with various departments
  • Ability to prioritize time sensitive deadlines in a fast paced environment
  • Bilingualism (English/ French) considered an asset
