Senior Translator – Contractual 24 months
Medavie provides in-house translation services for Medavie Blue Cross, Medavie Health Services and the Medavie Foundation, for private sector clients as well as for federal and provincial programs. We are currently seeking a Senior Translator to join our fast-paced and collaborative team of 6 translators for a two-year term. The Translation team is all about flexibility, collaboration and support, working closely to manage translation requests.
Reporting to the Manager of Internal Communications within the Corporate Communications team, the ideal candidate for this position will be primarily responsible for translating documents from English into French, including administrative, medical and insurance-related texts, in accordance with the quality and performance standards established by the Translation Department. The incumbent will also be required to contribute to the development of the internal terminology database and to proofread and revise texts translated by external suppliers or by her peers. This person will also have to be able to communicate with clients in order to clarify certain points and gather relevant information, and to meet the deadlines required by the latter.
Main Responsibilities:
• Translate various documents from English to French, with only exceptional revision after the training period is over, in accordance with the quality and performance standards established by the Translation Department
• Communicate with clients to clarify issues, negotiate deadlines and gather relevant information
• Contribute to the development of the internal terminology database.
• Attend occasional brainstorm and terminology meetings with internal stakeholders to align our common terminology.
• Improve our internal processes as needed
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Translation.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience, ideally some of which was acquired in a supervised environment.
• Have experience with a translation memory software.
o Experience with LogiTerm will be considered an asset.
• An excellent knowledge of the methods, tools and procedures used in the profession as well as good computer skills.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• High level of attention to detail.
• Good interpersonal skills.
• Deadline-oriented and flexible.
• Able to work alone with minimal supervision.
• Work effectively in a team environment.
• Customer focused.
• Outstanding time management skills.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in both official languages.
• Member of a provincial translation association and/or are certified from such an organization will be considered as an asset.
• Knowledge and experience within the insurance industry will be considered an asset.
